Apróság Könyvek - Webshop
In 2020, my family and I published our first children's book. Soon after, we published a second book, along with several other products, including coloring books and workbooks.
During that time, we primarily used Facebook for our business. However, we soon realized we need a website to be more professional and productive.
In our business, we assigned specific tasks to each of us: my husband handled the illustrations, posting on social media, and attending markets and fairs with my father-in-law (who also happened to be the book's writer). Meanwhile, my responsibility was to digitally paint the illustrations, prepare the books for printing, and create any required graphical materials.
Therefore, it was clear that I would handle these tasks as well.

We have already gathered some data about our target audience because of Facebook Business Suite and our Landing pages on wix.com:
-
87% are women
-
25-45 years old people are the most active followers
-
the group of 45-55 years old ones is significant too
-
92% are using their phones when they’re visiting our landing pages
-
people like to buy more products at once
-
they are more likely to buy more products when there’s a special offer (and during the campaign)

02 - THE RESEARCH
WHAT WE NEEDED
We knew what we wanted to have on our website, to boost our business and also build a community around it:
-
showcase our products in detail
-
show cheaper product packages
-
highlight any kind of offer or event that we currently have
-
introduce us, tell the story of our family and how we started this business
-
explain how these types of books can help children's cognitive development
-
show that there is a landing page where people can get free games and content from us
-
how to contact us
-
and of course, the whole flow of buying from the webshop
I started combining the data we already had with our needs. I sketched some layouts for the webshop and discussed them with business partners.
To create a suitable website layout for this brand, I had to examine the products and where people buy these from.
For the Home page, I tried a classic webshop layout, where you have the product in tiles, and there are categories and filters on the left side. The problem was that we didn’t have that many products, so filtering them out wouldn’t make much sense.
On the other hand, having an e-commerce landing page wouldn't have been effective due to the abundance of products we offered.
I started to shift the focus on the most important things and remove the elements that we didn’t need. This is how I ended up with our final layout.

03 - WIREFRAMING
I usually work in Adobe XD to create a Hi-Fi prototype so that is what I chose for this task. I designed the UI to reflect our first and most popular book style.

04 - RESULT
I was glad we already had user data we could use before we started to work on the webshop. It took a long time to finish this project (a couple of months), but this happens when the Designer has two small children at home AND she is her boss, not tied to any strict deadline…
Despite the challenges, I genuinely enjoyed working on this project. It was a unique and funny experience for me that I’m not only the UX Designer but one of the Clients as well. It brought a different perspective to the table, and I learned a lot along the way.
